I made this bag on a sewing machine. You can sew it by hand, but if you're looking to purchase a sewing machine, check local thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, or Amazon.

Here are the instructions!!

Step one:

Start with a used scrub top. Make sure to select one that has pocket sizes and a pattern you like. If you don't have any old scrubs, you can often find them at thrift stores or online. If you're new to Poshmark, use code CREATIVESAVER to get $10 off your first purchase, making them very affordable! When buying used, look for stains (ew) and make sure to CLEAN THOROUGHLY!

Cut out a corner of the shirt that has a pocket in the front. Do not cut the side hem.
Cut the size you'd like.
Go ahead and cut the middle where the buttons/clasps are for the straps.

Step two:

-Pin along the top to make a straight hem for the top. Sew before you sew anything else. Make sure not to sew together, because this is the TOP of the bag where it opens.
-I forgot to take a picture of pinning and sewing the side, but measure out and sew the left side to match the right side. This will probably NOT be a straight line, because shirts are typically curved. Fold over the bag to make sure the edges match and then sew. Measure twice, sew once!
-Pin the bottom hem of the bag last in a straight line and sew.

Step three:

Pin and sew the straps. You can do this in two ways. You can sew the straps where they are shorter and button/clasp together exactly as they would on the top. Or you can fasten the buttons/clasps and make a longer strap for a crossbody bag.
I sewed the straps by hand as opposed to using the sewing machine.

Step four:

To close the bag, I decided to make it super easy by adding (Velcro brand) sticky back hook and loop fasteners. I ordered this off Amazon, and I use it on a lot of projects!

Step five:

Enjoy your bag, and make a DIY scrunchie and even a DIY reading pillow to match!
These easy DIY projects make great easy homemade birthday gifts!
